Are you a grass roots racer? Did you build your car in your backyard? Are you regularly towing your race car to the track and bringing home just enough to make it back the following weekend? Then you might be interested in becoming a sponsored racer for E3 Spark Plugs.
E3 hosted a three-month-long social media campaign starting this past February and running through April wherein entrants were encouraged to “Like” the official E3 Spark Plugs’ Facebook fan page and sign up to join the Team E3 Racing team by submitting their name, age, contact information and T-shirt size. Additionally, participants were to provide a recap on their racing career thus far, including the race car’s make and model, series info, standings and significant winnings.
Winners were broken into three ‘tiers’ wherein the Tier 1 winners would not only win free spark plugs for their race cars but cash and gear to wear. Over the three months E3 awarded four winners from each tier with a Race Sponsorship and loaded them up with official Team E3 Racing Sponsorship prizes!
Tier 1: 12 Fans won $500 cash, 25 E3 spark plugs and official E3 Race Day gear and decals
Tier 2: 12 Fans won one (1) set of up to 8 spark plugs and official E3 Race Day gear and decals
Tier 3: 12 Fans won official E3 Race Day gear and decals
In addition to being officially sponsored by E3 Spark plugs, landing a part of Team E3 Racing also earns each winner plenty of free publicity as E3 will post their standings throughout the 2012 racing season, as well as posting their videos and pictures on the E3 website and social media channels.

TIER 1 Winners:
Dan Bunting: Bunting hails from Alexandria, OH and is a team owner and pilot of a Tunnel Boat. He has finished in the top 10 in series points in the American Powerboat Racing Series Tour each of the last four years and is co-sponsored by Monster Energy, JEGS and Hard Rock Café.
Andrew Pollard: Pollard, out of Senoia, GA began racing legends cars at age 12 in 1999. The very next season, he racked up 10 wins and finished second in year-end points. His career has continued that fast track and today, he’s the reigning champion in four different series and the 2011 Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Driver of the Year.
Jason Jiovani: Largo, Florida’s Jiovani is in his seventh season in the competitive drifting world. He’s racked up lots of top 10 finishes and this year will run the StreetWise Drift in the East Regional US Series. He’s also eligible to run the PRO class of Formula D this season.
Shane Corson: Corson won his first race at the local MX track in Blackwood, NJ at the age of nine and hasn’t looked back. His racing career started with a bang – he won the 90cc 4 stroke class each of his first three seasons. He later moved to the 300cc class and, last year, ran his first 450cc class event. In two national races, the 16-year-old was the youngest driver by at least four years.
Rick Hudson: Hudson of North Vernon, IN, raced go-carts starting at age 12 and running everything from dirt ovals to road courses to major US courses like Daytona International, Watkins Glen and Road America. Two decades and more than a few broken bones later, he switched to UMP modified racing and is currently in his eighth season driving a Larry Shaw-built modified.
Stephen Kildahl: Kildahl – from Estero, FL – started his career with a special permission waiver that allowed him to race the Super Boat International Offshore Boat Racing Circuit at age 16 – two years short of the normally required minimum age of 18. He’s since racked up 14 career wins, three Florida championships, two national championships and a world championship.
Daniel Alvarez: Nineteen-year-old Daniel “The Hammer” Alvarez of Chappells, South Carolina is much more than a hobbyist when it comes to racing. He’s already got a solid start on a well-rounded racing career with a A.A.S. degree in Automotive Technology from Piedmont Technical College and a scholarship to veteran racer Tony Blanchard’s RACE 1101 program, where he was so successful, the school created a new award in his honor. The X Factor Award will honor students who successfully recognize and brand a unique marketing image.
Jacob Putman: Our youngest winner yet, Jacob “Camokid” Putman ran his first official Kid Kart race at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, Virginia at the tender age of four. Today, at six years old, he’s racked up multiple wins against kids with more years and more experience on him. And he’s part of two racing teams including J&D Outlaw Racing founded with friend Donald Whorton. He starts the 2012 Kid Kart 2 season as a member of the Excel Racing team.
Daryl Barrett: Daryl Barrett of Gorham, New York’s Asylum Motorsports Group has been involved in every facet of racing since the age of four. He’s been a driver, crewmember, crew chief, engineer and owner and has worked with several successful racing teams over the course of his career, which includes over 250 wins. He races in the Grand-Am and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) World Challenge series in DP, GT, GS and GTS classes.
Jeremy Higgins: Nineteen-year-old Jeremy Higgins races dirt track and this year will compete in the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Twins class and the Expert Singles class on tracks throughout the United States. He races a 2010 Yamaha and graduates college as a powersports technician this spring.
James Luckett: That’s “Officer Luckett” to you. James Luckett of Romeoville, Illinois is a police officer who participates in exhibition and high school races via Beat the Heat, a nonprofit organization that works to keep kids off the streets. Driving his marked 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme down the drag, Luckett encourages kids to “make the trip to the strip” rather than race illegally on the street.
John Guthu: De Pere’ Wisconsin’s John Guthu loves a run on his snowmobile – no snow necessary. He’s entering his eight season in competitive grass drag racing with a new series, the Midstate Grass Drag Circuit. He landed a championship title in his first year of racing and has finished in the top three points every year since in the 600CC non-studded class.
