Nashville, TN (July 2, 2009)… Zan Martin, president and owner of Martin & Company Advertising of Nashville, TN, recently was elected to the Specialty Equipment Market Association’s (SEMA) Board of Directors. The SEMA trade association represents the $31 billion specialty automotive industry. With nearly 6,000 member companies, the industry provides appearance, performance, comfort, convenience and technology products for cars, trucks and recreational vehicles. The SEMA Show, held annually the first week of November in Las Vegas, is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world, attracting more than 100,000 industry leaders from over 100 different countries.
Martin & Company Advertising is a marketing solutions agency that specializes in the automotive aftermarket. As a 25-year member of SEMA, Martin has been extremely active among councils and committees, and is a member of the SEMA Businesswomen’s Network (SBN), and the Light Truck Accessory Association (LTAA). During her tenure as chair of the SBN from 2001-2003, she was largely responsible for creating the industry-wide mentoring program that is now actively utilized by SEMA professionals of both genders. She was the 2005 recipient of the prestigious ATHENA Award, which recognized her contributions to the growth and stature of women in the automotive industry. Martin is pro-active in providing management opportunities for women in her own business, as well as supporting the professional growth of interns and associates.
“It was a tremendous honor for me to be elected by my peers to serve our industry during such trying times,” says Martin. “ Government mandates of the automakers, CARB, CAFÉ, and DOT regulations, as well as the current economic climate have challenged the aftermarket beyond anything we’ve ever faced. Many wonder how our industry will be able to remain stable amid such sweeping change. As a veteran of the automotive aftermarket, I will be tireless in my efforts to lead our industry through this minefield of change. We have our work cut out for us, but will do whatever it takes to protect and preserve the auto hobby.”
